An exciting and rewarding opportunity is available for a suitably qualified Registered Nurse to join the Quality team at Portland District Health.
The Quality and Safety Officer plays a key role in supporting a culture of continuous improvement, patient safety, and clinical excellence. This position is primarily responsible for monitoring the organisation’s clinical incident management system (RiskMan), conducting incident reviews, supporting root cause analyses, and ensuring compliance with Safer Care Victoria and relevant accreditation standards. The officer works closely with clinical teams to promote best practices in quality and safety and must have a strong clinical background to effectively interpret clinical incidents and risks.
About you
- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse, Allied Health Professional, or relevant clinical discipline.
- At least 5 years post-registration clinical experience in a healthcare setting.
- Experience with incident management systems (VHIMS/RiskMan).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to review clinical incidents and identify improvement opportunities.
- Proficiency in preparing reports and managing documentation.
- Previous experience in a quality, risk, or clinical governance role is desirable
- Training in Root Cause Analysis, incident investigation, or risk assessment is desirable
- Knowledge of Safer Care Victoria frameworks and NSQHS Standards is desirable

Portland District Health (PDH) provides an integrated health service for the community. The hospital was established in 1856 on the current site and now provides a comprehensive range of services that include:
- Hospital based Medical and Surgical services, Medical Imaging (Radiology), Pharmacy and Pathology
- A 24/7 Urgent Care Centre for emergency treatment
- Residential aged care for 30 residents at Harbourside Lodge
- An extensive range of primary and community services for the local community
PDH delivers services from a single campus, employs around 470 staff with an FTE of approximately 290, and has an active volunteer workforce. The People and Culture Unit sits within the Corporate Services Directorate, with other Units including Finance, Building Services, Food Services, Environmental Services, Executive Support, Administration and Health Information.
