We are seeking an experienced Structural Project Engineer to provide technical leadership and project management expertise for structural engineering projects. This role requires a licensed professional engineer with extensive experience in structural design and demonstrated success in managing complex projects from conception through completion.

Primary Purpose

The Structural Project Engineer provides technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering staff while ensuring the highest quality of all structural engineering efforts. This position is responsible for project management, client relationship development, development, and timely project delivery while supporting the organization's marketing goals and revenue projections.

Key ResponsibilitiesProject Management

* Develop comprehensive project proposals including scope, expectations, approach, schedule, and deliverables
* Create detailed proposals based on project scope, deliverables, and client requirements
* Establish project plans with clear scope, expectations, schedules, and design budgets
* Lead project teams and assign task responsibilities to team members
* Coordinate with architects, owners, clients, and other engineering disciplines
* Maintain project schedules, monitor progress, and resolve technical issues
* Conduct client meetings and ensure clear communication of action items
* Provide technical support to project teams and assist in design and production as needed

Structural Design and Technical Leadership

* Serve as lead structural engineer on assigned projects
* Provide initial scope of work and design intent to team members
* Coordinate structural design with other disciplines and external jurisdictions
* Conduct quality control and coordination reviews based on project deliverables
* Ensure compliance with building codes, industry standards, and best practices
* Review and approve structural calculations, drawings, and specifications
* Respond to contractor questions during bidding and construction phases
* Supervise RFI responses and shop drawing submittal processes

Financial Management

* Complete project control records and coordinate with accounting
* Conduct pre-bill reviews and manage project billing according to client schedules
* Monitor project profitability and provide accurate revenue projections
* Manage receivables and maintain client communication regarding project finances
* Identify additional services and scope changes to secure appropriate fees
* Track project phases and maintain financial controls throughout project lifecycle

Quality Assurance and Technical Excellence

* Conduct comprehensive QA/QC reviews for all structural deliverables
* Arrange peer reviews for complex projects based on project type and team experience
* Supervise construction administration activities including site visits
* Document field conditions, deviations from construction documents, and construction progress
* Ensure proper project closeout procedures are followed
* Maintain technical standards and quality control protocols

Team Leadership and Development

* Mentor junior engineers and designers in structural design and project management
* Conduct technical interviews and participate in candidate assessments
* Participate in annual performance review processes for assigned staff
* Foster a collaborative team environment and promote professional development
* Assign Assistant Project Manager roles to junior engineers for training purposes
* Conduct regular staff meetings and coordinate workload assignments

Client Relations and Business Development

* Develop and maintain positive client relationships
* Support marketing efforts and represent the firm at client presentations
* Ensure client satisfaction through exceptional service delivery
* Participate in proposal preparation and business development activities
* Represent the firm in community and professional organizations

Required QualificationsEducation and Licensure

* Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
* Professional Engineer (PE) license required
* Active membership in relevant professional organizations

Experience

* Minimum 9 years of experience in structural engineering and project management
* Demonstrated success managing structural engineering projects from start to finish
* Experience in architecture/engineering (A/E) environment
* Proven track record of client relationship management and business development

Technical Expertise

* Comprehensive knowledge of structural engineering principles and design
* Proficiency in structural analysis and design software
* Understanding of building codes, seismic design, and industry standards
* Experience with various structural systems including steel, concrete, wood, and masonry
* Knowledge of construction methods and materials

* Advanced certifications in structural engineering software platforms
* Experience in Florida construction market and local building codes

Work Environment

This position is based in Melbourne, FL, and involves office-based design work, client meetings, and periodic construction site visits. The role requires collaboration with internal teams and external partners while maintaining flexibility to adapt to project demands and client schedules.
