Overview

The role of Defence Finance Group (DFG) is to provide the full range of financial advice, services and systems to the Defence Portfolio. As an APS 6 Management Accountant within the Financial Performance & Management Division, you will provide support to client facing finance partners across the country working closely with Defence Groups and Services to deliver high quality management accounting, advice and support.

With a growing team of over 700 people spread across Australia, with significant offices in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Williamtown, DFG is the largest finance function in the Commonwealth. We can offer a significant depth of career opportunities for finance professionals, accountants, financial systems experts and financial policy specialists.

DFG manages over $50 Billion in funding, which equates to a budget of over $100 million per day, with a huge variety of large complex projects running in parallel. The breadth of technical challenges and opportunities to develop and grow your experience and leadership capabilities are second to none.

DFG has been undertaking an expansive reform journey to ensure we are a trusted and professional business partner, delivering financial insight to inform decision-making across Defence. DFG works as one cohesive unit with a structure now harmonised with most other Commonwealth agencies. We are a large team that is actively sharing ideas and collaborating across an enormously diverse business.

As we enter the next exciting phase of our reform including major investment in systems and automation, as well as process and policy reform, we are looking for new talent from the private and public sector with fresh ways of thinking to join our rejuvenated culture.

About our Team

FP&M Division delivers financial advice and performance reporting to Groups and Services, Ministers and other government departments, across all Defence programs and activities including workforce, capital, sustainment and operating budgets.

FP&M Division consists of over 400 staff working in six branches, each managing around $6 Billion per year, with embedded finance staff across the country working closely with business areas.

Principally, the Division is responsible for delivering financial management information and advice to ensure Defence leaders can make well informed decisions. Think big numbers, many complex projects running in parallel, and close public scrutiny requiring carefully managed finances.

The Finance Air Force Branch sits within the FP&M Division and provides finance support to Air Force.

These positions will directly support the Air Combat Systems Program Office (ACSPO) that organisationally sits in the Aerospace Combat Systems Branch in Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), within the Department of Defence. ACSPO is the acquisition and sustainment support agency for the Australian F-35A Lightning II Air System.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

* Manage financial support, contribute to budget preparation and financial performance monitoring and reporting in accordance with Defence objectives.
