Purpose of the Role
The Carpenter is responsible for the precise construction, assembly, and installation of timber, joinery, and fabricated components used in the manufacture of motorhomes. The role ensures the fit-out of vehicle interiors, including cabinetry, flooring, wall panelling, and furniture, is delivered to specification and to the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Vehicle Fit-Out and Carpentry
* Measure, cut, assemble and install timber, laminate and composite components for vehicle interiors.
* Fit and install cabinets, shelving, tables, partitions, and other joinery within motorhomes.
* Use hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery safely and effectively.
* Prepare and assemble framework, flooring, and wall linings in line with specifications.
* Ensure all carpentry work is square, level, aligned, and securely fixed.
Technical & Production
* Interpret and follow technical drawings, plans, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
* Modify, adjust, and finish components as required to meet production tolerances.
* Work with adhesives, sealants, screws, and fixings to assemble and secure components.
* Assist in set-up, adjustment, and maintenance of woodworking tools and equipment.
Quality Control & Safety
* Conduct quality control inspections on completed fit-outs and carpentry tasks.
* Identify defects, repair or replace faulty materials, and ensure a high-quality finish.
* Maintain records of completed work and ensure compliance with safety standards.
* Ensure all work areas are safe, clean, and compliant with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations.
Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
* Maintain carpentry tools and equipment to ensure proper working condition.
* Contribute to process improvements and suggest new methods for greater efficiency.
* Work collaboratively with other trades and production staff to meet build schedules.
Skills & Experience Required
* Trade qualification in Carpentry, Cabinetmaking, or equivalent experience.
* Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, and woodworking machinery.
* Ability to interpret and work from drawings, diagrams, and specifications.
* Experience with installation of cabinetry, furniture, and joinery components.
* Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, adhesives, fixings, and finishes.
* Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to WHS procedures.
* Effective teamwork and communication skills.
