This is a permanent part-time (0.31 FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2026
Avonvale Primary School (PS) is a small community-based school. We are beginning our journey of implementing the Berry Street Education Model across our school. Our staff receive quality professional learning and are supported as we develop, implement, and refine effective strategies that make a difference for our school community. At Avonvale PS we are committed to providing enriched learning opportunities to meet the needs of all our students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
At Avonvale PS, we believe that the key to successful outcomes for our students involves consistent predictable adults who implement consistent predictable routines within their classroom. We have a strong focus on developing a sense of belonging for every student and developing classroom cultures that reflect a community of peers working together to achieve collective outcomes.

The Role
The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for our Aboriginal students. As a liaison between the school and community, the AIEO works closely with teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant educational programs that empower our Aboriginal students to reach their full potential.
With a deep understanding of Aboriginal culture and history, the AIEO brings a unique perspective to the school community, promoting respect, understanding and harmony. Through mentoring and pastoral care, the AIEO also provides support and guidance to Aboriginal students to encourage participation and achievement in the classroom.
While the role is focused on inclusion for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, the work involves a variety of other general tasks, such as administrative duties, guiding students in developing general life skills, managing classroom resources, or assisting with behaviour management plans for students at risk.
