We're seeking a friendly, culturally aware Receptionist to join our Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) team, supporting our Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) programs. GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 160 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.
Position Purpose
The successful applicant will work alongside our Social and Emotional Wellbeing team. The purpose of the Receptionist position is to provide a welcoming and professional first point of contact for clients, visitors, and staff. The role is responsible for managing front desk operations, including answering and directing calls, greeting guests, handling inquiries, and performing a variety of administrative tasks.
Key Selection Criteria
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal culture with the ability to liaise with and support the local community.
• To delegate and provide support to existing reception and SEWB staff.
• Confident and experienced in communication and frontline reception.
• Familiar in client data base systems and data entry.
• Demonstrated efficient time management skills and the ability to prioritise and take directions from Management.
• Able to communicate well with internal staff and other external organisations, including the wider Aboriginal communities.
• Effective problem-solving skills.
• Good reading, writing and comprehension skills.
• Experience of and commitment to always maintaining confidentiality and neutrality.
• Ability to work independently.
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
• Valid driver licence ESSENTIAL
• Previous experience working in a Medical Centre or medical environment ESSENTIAL
• A knowledge of Aboriginal culture and prior experience working within an Aboriginal community DESIRABLE
• A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
• A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
