We have an exciting position for an Irrigation Technician. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing the day to day irrigation operations and implement irrigation programs suitable to the orchard. It is essential in optimising sustainable tree growth and production of the orchard by maintaining effective water management based on crop requirements. This role also has a significant "hands-on" aspect and will see you monitoring soil moisture and maintaining the farm's irrigation equipment and infrastructure.
Your key responsibilities will include:
* Providing agronomic guidance concerning crop management, soil health, and pest control
* Conducting field assessments to identify potential issues and proposing solutions to optimise crop yields.
* General care and maintenance to ensure irrigation is provided adequately to maintain the health and productivity of the trees and other irrigated areas.
* Be engaged in sustainability initiatives and proactively suggest improvements to recycling, energy and water consumption
* Provide guidance on optimal crop rotation and recommend planning of variety selection
* Provide agricultural chemical, fertiliser and seed recommendations which includes conducting spraying of insecticides, herbicides, fungicides or other like products
* Basic horticultural practices such as participation in landscaping operations
* Carry out a variety of irrigation related tasks such as installation, operation and servicing and calibrate spraying and planting equipment
The successful candidate will possess the following skills, attributes and experience:
* Demonstrated knowledge of the agricultural industry with an understanding of the products, seasonal timings and general requirements of rural producers
* Experience and knowledge of irrigation systems and their components
* Up to date knowledge of the irrigation industry, relevant standards and best practice methods and procedures.
* Have an understanding of irrigation systems and function; and knowledge in the use and storage of fertilisers.
* A strong commitment to all health and safety guidelines and safe operation of irrigation systems
* Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia will be preferred
