Purpose of the Position: The Apprentice Mechanical will assist qualified Fitters in the maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical equipment and machinery. This role provides hands-on training while completing a formal apprenticeship to develop the skills and knowledge required to become a qualified Fitter and Turner / Mechanical Fitter.

Key Accountabilities

Technical Expertise

· Assist tradespeople with maintenance, servicing, and repair of mechanical equipment and machinery.

· Learn to read and interpret mechanical drawings, plans, and specifications.

· Assist with dismantling, assembling, and installing mechanical components.

· Support preventative maintenance activities on plant and equipment.

· Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

· Maintain a clean and organised work area.

· Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and site requirements.

· Complete required apprenticeship training and coursework.

· Report faults, hazards, and equipment issues to supervisors.

· Assist with inspections and basic troubleshooting of mechanical systems.

· Perform any other tasks as reasonably directed

Continuous Improvement

· Undertake new tasks and skills to further develop this role and advance your skill base. continually look for ways to improve efficiency and work methods and report any opportunities for improvement on the HSQE system.

· Undertake any additional training or up skilling to improve efficiencies and quality of the facility and the motivation to personally achieve.

· Complete relevant QA documents as required and comply with quality procedures.

· Compliance with client safety management systems as required.

Safety and Compliance

· Be conversant with Ahrens’ Quality, Environment, Safety, Drug and Alcohol Policies, HSQE Management System and Emergency Plan. In particular, ensure that you work safely in accordance with any relevant Safe Work Method Statements and/or SOPs, respect the environment and report any variations from the Ahrens’ way of doing business and safety or environmental hazards/incidents through Ahrens’ reporting system. Specific HQSE Management System responsibilities are as documented in the Management Manual.

* Observe and uphold all policies and procedures of the company at all times and assist with the implementation of improvements.
* Promptly Report all near misses, hazards and incidents to your immediate supervisor
Conduct routine start-up and maintenance checks on all equipment.

Essential Criteria

· Valid Driver’s Licence.

· Strong interest in mechanical equipment and maintenance.

· Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.

· Good communication and teamwork skills.

· Ability to follow instructions and work safely.

· Willingness to learn and develop technical skills

· Strong work ethic and reliability.

· Safety-focused attitude.
