Salary: AFTRS Level 5 ($79, % super and excellent benefits

We are looking for an enthusiastic Props Maker/Property Master to join our Production & Facilities team.

About the Role

Under the direction of the Props and Staging Manager, this Workshop Officer assists and advises staff, students and stakeholders in the skills, techniques and industry protocols associated with this position with a focus on set design and construction to industry standards. The position supports productions and classwork with staging assistance where required, and is frequently required to support contractors, volunteers and students in the workshop, studios and on location.

Key Accountabilities

* Staging Assist: Assist internal and external staging assistants, volunteer workers and students as required.
* Safety: Maintain the safety of, workshop, storage areas and work with the Studio Supervisor on studio safety. Ensure maximum care, safety and security of props and staging equipment, working conditions and facilities, including scenery runway, props storage and props and staging equipment in studio areas. Assist Props and Staging Manager to Maintain and update SWMS and safety procedure documentation as required.
* Equipment Maintenance: Work with the Props and Staging Manager to ensure workshop equipment and tools are effectively maintained and in safe operating order.
* Staging: Under the direction of the Props and Staging Manager, assist with bump in and bump out and assemble sets and set pieces in studio and on location as required.
* Workshop: Work with the Props and Staging Manager to maintain the Workshop and Furniture Store and ensure areas are clean and orderly.
* Make Props: Make prop and set elements as required.
* Set Dresser: Assist with set dressing as required in consultation with the Design students and relevant teaching staff.
* Standby Props: Assist in performing the duties of Standby Props person on location and for studio-based productions and advise students on procedures.
* Meeting Attendance: Attend production meetings as required and contribute to the most effective and economical outcome whilst assisting students to realise their creativity.
* Onboarding: Assist the Props and Staging Manger in the onboarding of staging assistants and technical trainees.
* Construction: Assist in the construction of staging and set elements.
* Area Operation: Ensure all work and storage areas are operated according to industry safety standards.
* Production Support: Provide production / set design support for studio, workshop, and location productions within the School.
* Safe Work Environments: Create and maintain culturally and psychologically safe learning and working environments.
* Other Duties: There may be a requirement to undertake tasks outside the scope of the responsibilities listed to support the organisation. AFTRS will engage in a conversation should these tasks arise.

About you – You Have:

1. Production Experience: High level of knowledge and experience in the end-to-end production process with a focus on design for film and television production.
2. Staging Experience: High level of experience in set moves and staging elements.
3. WHS Experience: High level of knowledge of, and experience with, industry safety requirements including work health & safety regulations.
4. Set Construction Experience: Knowledge of and experience in set construction and set finishing techniques for film and television productions.
5. Problem Solving Skills: Ability to problem solve and utilise current industry knowledge to find solutions within resourcing requirements.
6. Organisational Skills: Excellent organisational skills to manage a high work volume.
7. Teamwork: Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a member of a small team.
8. Advisory Ability: Ability to advise staff and students on relevant aspects of Props and Staging in a high-pressure educational environment.
9. Safe Work Environments: Experience in fostering culturally and psychologically safe work environments.

* Undertake a Working with Children Check
* Hold a Class C driver's licence
* Hold a Construction Induction Training Card (White Card)
