These positions will lead the scientific aspects of the Geological Survey's mission as custodian of the state's geological knowledge and in improving our understanding of the state's geological evolution and mineral systems.
We are looking for three exceptional candidates in the following specialisations :
* Statewide Geology
* Geophysics
* Mineral Systems
You will provide scientific leadership in your respective field in enhancing the understanding of the state's geology and mineral prospectivity, particularly via the application of new and innovative ways in data acquisition, data interpretation and synthesis, and in disseminating the results to our diverse stakeholders.
You will also mentor and foster our talented staff, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and the building of resilience and depth in the Survey scientific and technical capacities.
You will also collaborate and liaise with other government and university research organisations to maximise the benefits of scientific collaboration.
The Principal Geologist – Statewide will lead the technical aspects and strategic direction of the Survey's programs that drive the continuous improvement and validation of the state's geology as collated in our world class Seamless Geology product. This includes the acquisition of new geological and related data including, but not restricted to field studies, geochronology, stratigraphy, tectonics, and structural geology.
The Principal Geophysicist will provide scientific advice, leadership and strategic direction in the design and implementation of geophysical projects. They will lead the technical aspects of geophysical procurement programs and / or geophysical modelling and interpretation to value add to the Survey's substantial geophysical datasets.
The Principal Geoscientist - Mineral Systems will provide scientific leadership and strategic direction in the design and implementation of mineral system projects in addition to management of the Survey's petrographic datasets and functions.
These ongoing positions offer a generous 35-hour week and flexible working arrangements based in Maitland, although other regional centres in NSW may be considered.
Essential Requirements
* Relevant degree qualification in geoscience, earth or physical science (dependent on the role).
* Hold and maintain a current Class C driver licence.
* Compliance with pre-employment probity screening is mandatory and a condition of engagement.
