Position: Rates Recovery Officer
Salary: Stream A, Level 3 from $77,690.97 per annum + superannuation
Location: 150 Wembley Road, Logan Central
Duration: Fixed Term Contract ending 22 January 2027

Our Finance Branch is seeking a Rates Recovery Officer who is committed to delivering excellent customer service while actively contributing to the protection of Council's revenue. This role is focused on reducing overdue and unpaid rates to the lowest practicable level through effective and timely recovery actions.
To succeed in this role, you will need strong revenue collection skills and clear, confident communication to engage with ratepayers in a professional and solution-focused manner. Your ability to work collaboratively within a supportive team environment will also be key to achieving recovery targets and maintaining service standards.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Conduct high-volume outbound collection calls to customers with overdue accounts, requesting payment and working toward collection targets in line with Council policies and service standards.
* Communicate with customers via phone, email, and written correspondence to provide accurate information about their accounts and available support options, including financial hardship assistance where applicable.
* Monitor payment arrangements and take timely action on overdue accounts, including initiating legal recovery processes where required and escalating complex cases to the Revenue Collection and Recovery Team Leader.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of arrears and account activity for assigned ratepayer accounts.
* Respond promptly and professionally to enquiries and correspondence related to overdue accounts, including phone and counter interactions.
* Liaise with the Rates section to follow up on matters such as new owner notifications, address changes, and search details relevant to account recovery.
Essential requirements of the role include, but are not limited to:
* Minimum educational standards associated with Queensland Grade 12
* Possess fundamental oral, written and administrative communication, including excellent telephone and numeracy skills
* Attention to detail and organisational skills in a fast-paced team environment
* Computer literate with keyboard skills and knowledge of software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
* Excellent customer service and teamwork skills
* Dependability, self-motivation and enthusiasm
* Ability to successfully pass all required employment background checks
Desirable requirement: minimum 12 months experience collecting revenue for a government body or in the private sector.
