About The Role
With support from the Queensland Government, Salvos Stores is establishing Australia's first large-scale textile sorting and decommissioning plant in Carole Park. The Salvos Boomerang facility is a major step toward reducing textile waste in landfill and building a circular economy for Australia.
We are seeking a mechanically minded Machine Operator to join our production team and help operate and maintain industrial textile processing machinery in this purpose-built facility. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will play a hands‐on role in operating and maintaining machinery, managing inventory, and supporting production processes to optimize textile sorting, processing, and recycling operations. This is an ideal role for someone with strong mechanical aptitude who enjoys working with machinery and troubleshooting in a production environment.
Role Responsibilities
* Operate and maintain textile processing and decommissioning machinery, including cutting, trimming, and pressing equipment.
* Monitor sorting accuracy, ensure quality control standards, and optimize machine efficiency.
* Conduct routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on operational equipment.
* Safely transport and handle textiles and materials within the facility.
* Assist with inventory tracking, stock control, and workflow coordination to meet production demands.
* Maintain a clean, organised and safe production environment.
Essential Qualifications
* Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining machinery in a manufacturing, production, recycling or similar industrial environment.
* Strong mechanical aptitude and confidence troubleshooting equipment.
* High attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
* Ability to work both independently and within a team‐based production environment.
* Physical capability to perform manual handling tasks.
Desirable
* Experience working with textiles.
* Basic troubleshooting and maintenance skills for operational equipment.
* Understanding of textile processing and recycling techniques.
* Forklift license.
