Full time, Continuing Opportunity available Opportunity to utilise your experience in supporting the University’s education and research goals Base salary from $103,185 plus 17% superannuation About the opportunity The Technical Officer will work in the Camperdown campus in the Chemistry Building (F11) to deliver timely and effective technical support services to achieve agreed research support outcomes. This includes provision of hands-on support and servicing of instrumentation/equipment, primarily for facilitating maintenance of equipment, including hand on the tools and contractors engagement to deliver agreed services, maintain safe working environment, provision of specialised technical advice to users (academic staff/researchers), service optimisation (where required), sourcing and preparation of consumables, and assist in the writing of safety and procedural documentation. The Technical Officer will implement processes, procedures and systems in place to provide the agreed support services efficiently and as directed, for diverse range of stakeholders. The Technical Officer will provide training to users in the safe operation of TSS managed equipment, and general laboratory procedures. The role will facilitate delivery of projects under the general direction of the Senior Technical Officer. This role supports the Senior Technical Officer and other team members in ensuring that the relevant Work, Health and Safety standards and other compliance requirements of the work area are met and are aligned with the University’s WHS policy and relevant legislation. Your key responsibilities will be to: support the agreed delivery of technical services in the designated area Utilise your instrumentation/equipment servicing/engineering skills to support agreed services to researchers in your designated area deliver training to facility users in the safe operation of equipment, and general laboratory procedures support the implementation of service improvements and service excellence within the responsibility area contribute to a positive, professional and customer-focused team culture support the effective utilisation of resources within the designated area of responsibility, ensuring that the education/research requirements are effectively met champion best practices, workplace health and safety, compliance, and risk management seek and act on opportunities to cross-skill, including drawing on the knowledge and expertise of others collaborate with other TSS teams across the university and support the operations of projects managed centrally as required. About you: a degree in Chemistry or chemical Engineering (or equivalent) and/or relevant work experience experience with industrial/research chemistry instrumentation/equipment, cryogenic/compressed gases, gas detection systems, gloveboxes and WHS practices would be highly desirable experience in providing customer facing support, training, and maintenance on Chemistry laboratory or chemical engineering equipment would be desirable fitness ability to do manual lifting as required in the labs relevant experience in safely working in chemistry laboratory environments ability to apply and contribute to the development, maintenance, and review of standard technical documentation and operating procedures. working knowledge of laboratory regulations, with experience implementing regulations and operating procedures within the laboratory environment. Relevant experience in the safe handling/storage/disposal of biological and hazardous substances (e.g., chemicals, waste, compressed gases and cryogens) ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that arise as part of normal daily work strong communication and relationship building skills. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with customers. Promotes strong working relationships and the desire to work collaboratively with other staff to support required organisational outcomes. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. customer service experience: Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain working relationships with customers.
