The Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Clinical Trials Nurse Team Leader (CNS2) to provide senior clinical leadership within the Clinical Trials Unit at Macquarie University Health (MUH)
Reporting to the Senior Clinical Trials Manager, Operations, this role is responsible for leading the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based and patient-centred nursing care for patients enrolled in clinical trials. The position combines advanced clinical expertise with leadership, governance and coordination responsibilities to ensure trials are conducted safely, ethically and in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), regulatory requirements and hospital policies.
The Clinical Trials Nurse Team Leader provides day-to-day clinical oversight, mentorship and professional support to the Clinical Trials Nursing team, while fostering strong collaboration with investigators, sponsors, CROs and multidisciplinary stakeholders. The role also contributes to education, service development, quality improvement and research initiatives that enhance patient care and advance clinical trial activity at MUH.
Key accountabilities of this role include:
Clinical Care & Patient Advocacy
* Deliver advanced, evidence-based nursing care to patients participating in clinical trials
* Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, administer investigational products and evaluate clinical outcomes
* Monitor, manage and escalate adverse events in accordance with protocol and safety requirements
* Advocate for patient safety, rights and informed consent throughout trial participation
Leadership & Team Support
* Lead, mentor and support the Clinical Trials Nursing team, fostering a positive and high-performing culture
* Support workload allocation and resourcing to ensure safe and efficient trial delivery
* Provide guidance and escalation support for complex clinical and operational matters
Trial Conduct, Governance & Compliance
* Ensure trials are conducted in compliance with GCP, ethics approvals, sponsor requirements and hospital policies
* Coordinate trial start-up activities, site initiation visits, staff training and audit support
* Oversee investigational product handling, sample collection and protocol-specific procedures
* Promote risk management, incident reporting and continuous improvement within the nursing team
Education, Quality & Service Development
* Act as a clinical resource and educator for nursing and multidisciplinary staff
* Develop and deliver trial-specific education for nurses, patients and carers
* Participate in and lead quality improvement activities, audits and accreditation processes
* Support nurse-led research and contribute to the dissemination of clinical trials nursing knowledge

To Apply
To be considered for this position, your resume must demonstrate the following requirements:
* Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)
* Minimum of three (3) years' post-graduate nursing experience, with experience in oncology and/or clinical trials
* Demonstrated experience providing nursing care to patients enrolled in clinical trials, including administration of investigational products and management of adverse events
* Sound knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), clinical trial protocols and regulatory requirements
* Proven leadership experience with the ability to mentor, support and motivate nursing staff
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills within multidisciplinary and external environments
* Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload, coordinate resources and achieve clinical and operational objectives
* Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and evidence-based practice
* Postgraduate qualification in nursing leadership/management, or working towards same (desirable)
