The Opportunity


Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Part Time Human Resources Manager to join their team for a period of up to two (2) years.

Reporting to the Director of Finance & Governance you will be responsible for leading a team to deliver best practice advice to our staff to ensure compliance of Council's Human Resources function.

More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

* Provide advice to Council's Executive Leadership Team and employees regarding HR matters
* Ensure compliance with industrial laws, awards and related requirements
* Assume the lead role in Change Management Projects
* Administer the Council salary system
* Coordinate staff recruitment and selection
* Advise on the Council's Payroll System
* Manage workers compensation claims and co-ordination / rehabilitation of injured workers
* Monitor Anti-Discrimination and Employment Legislation and Council's HR Policies & procedures
* Coordinate staff training and development
* Manage Council's Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
* Other duties and ad-hoc projects as required


About you


The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

* Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources or a related field
* Relevant work-related experience in a human resource environment
* Experience in providing high-level human resources advice to management and staff regarding disciplinary matters, performance management, change management ,and other matters in accordance with HR policies, procedures and legislation
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to lead and work in a team environment
* A strong self-motivation and demonstrated initiative in approaching the functions of the position
* Experience in coordinating staff training
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Programs and HRIS Systems
* Thorough working knowledge of employment legislation
* Ability to ensure a high degree of confidentiality
* Commitment to Work Health and Safety and Risk Management procedures
* Demonstrated commitment to the principles of honesty and integrity

In addition, an ideal candidate would have:

* Degree/Diploma in Human Resource Management.
* Experience/understanding of Payroll processes.
* Certificate IV in Training and Workplace Assessment


Salary and Benefits

* Between $977.23 and $1,063.17 per week, commensurate with your skills, qualifications and experience
* Temporary term contract up to two (2) years
* Part Time, 15 hours per week, Thursday and Friday
