This role is classified as Level 4 role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement (with a base salary range of $99,377-$109,890). The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework.
The role is rostered and involves a mix of early morning and afternoon shifts, Monday-Friday, and alternates in shifts with another Audio Supervising Producer. This may also include some weekend on-call work.
As a rostered shiftworker, additional shift penalty payments may apply for work performed outside of ordinary hours, including weekends and public holidays, as per the SBS Enterprise Agreement (EA). SBS may also require you to work reasonable overtime, where overtime will be paid at applicable rates in accordance with the EA. Shift patterns may change over time depending on operational needs.
The Role
We're looking for an Audio Supervising Producer to elevate SBS News' audio output. Working to the SBS News Audio Lead, you'll commission and guide daily audio content including lining up and overseeing our daily news bulletins, and commissioning and supervising daily in-depth news feature podcasts, as well as contributing to the production to podcast series such as On the Money, World News Weekly and other news feature series'.
You'll work closely with the Audio Lead to ensure our content is accurate, engaging and aligned with SBS's Charter.
What you'll do
* Commission, guide and sub-edit our daily audio news bulletins publishing at 6am, 12pm and 4pm, as well as overseeing/assigning breaking news audio stories.
* Commission, guide and sub-edit day-to-day feature and explainer podcasts, working closely with journalists to ensure every story is clear, accurate, engaging and distinctively SBS.
* Bring strong editorial judgement and a sharp sense of what resonates with audio audiences.
* Provide day-to-day guidance to audio journalists, helping lift storytelling, voicing, scripting and production skills, while also contributing hands‐on when needed.
* Bring forward coverage ideas to connect with news podcast audiences.
* Optimise and publish audio content to best enable audience engagement.
* Co‐ordinate with SBS News teams and partner teams, including other digital, video, TV, in‐language and NITV teams.

* You're an experienced audio journalist or producer with demonstrated experience in supervising content - or ready to step up into a leadership role - with a passion for creating impactful news content.
* You have strong editorial judgement, excellent writing and scripting skills, and a clear understanding of what makes audio storytelling engaging and accessible.
* You're confident working in a fast‐paced news environment, can balance multiple priorities and deadlines, and confidently publish to fixed bulletin publish times.
* You have strong knowledge of international and national affairs.
* Enjoy exploring original angles for news stories and are passionate about quality journalism.
* You enjoy supporting others to do their best work - offering feedback, coaching and guidance in day‐to‐day content and thrive in a collaborative, team‐first culture.
* You have strong audio technical skills, including audio editing and publishing, and the ability to coach or train audio journalists in publishing.
* You're curious about where audio is heading, with an interest in digital trends, audience behaviour and how to connect content with listeners across platforms.
