Our Journey
North Ward is a 20-bed surgical unit that specialises in plastics, reconstructions, ENT, maxillofacial, ophthalmology and gynaecology. As a small unit, our team prides itself on being able to provide our patients with outstanding pre- and post-operative care. We are committed to working with you to become your professional best. We offer clinical education sessions, on-the-job training and career progression to enable you to further develop your Clinical and Leadership skills. There are currently both Full Time and Part time Ongoing opportunities available; working a 24/7 roster to cover AM, PM and Night Shift.
A Day in the Life
We work as a close-knit team with a strong focus on collaboration, providing support to the wider multi-disciplinary team ensuring a high standard of safety and engagement with our patients throughout their journey with us. We have a strong educational focus and encourage staff to further develop their skills and provide a friendly and social working environment. You will have access to resources to support you in this position, enabling you to further advance your surgical nursing and leadership skills whilst role modelling nursing excellence and delivering a high standard of patient centred care. Your attention to detail and passion for surgical nursing will see you excel in this position.
As a Registered Nurse on North Ward:
1. You will provide patient centred management of all patients with varying levels of surgical requirements
2. You will be responsible for undertaking clinical training to deliver a high standard of care and engage in quality improvement associated with the National Safety and Quality Standards.
About You
You are adaptable to a changing environment, you are a clear and positive communicator, quickly establishing rapport with the people you work with. You are passionate about delivering patient centred care, allowing you to engage with our patients and their families. Alongside your caring and engaging manner, you have a positive work attitude and a strong people-person focus allowing you to engage with our patients and their families.
Your skills will include, but are not limited to:
3. Surgical nursing; clinical management of a surgical patient
4. Experience with wound, graft and flap management
5. Airway management skills
6. Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
7. Ability to show initiative and assist team members where needed
8. Recognition of the deteriorating patient and appropriate escalation
9. Emergency management
What you need:
10. Current AHPRA registration
11. Proven Clinical Nursing experience; Surgical Nursing highly desirable
12. Dedication to safe best practice and quality care
13. Committed to delivering patient centred care and patient advocacy
