We are seeking an exceptional General Manager Operations – Construction Projects & Technical, a key executive role responsible for the leadership of all engineering, design, pre‑construction, and construction delivery functions across the business.
This position is central to shaping operational discipline, elevating technical capability, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex, remote‑area construction projects built to Australian Standards and client expectations.
The Opportunity
As the organisation's senior technical authority and primary client interface, you will lead multi‑disciplinary teams spanning Design, Engineering, Estimating, Planning & Scheduling, Procurement, QA / QC, HSE, Project Controls, and Construction Delivery.
Your remit covers the entire project lifecycle — concept design, estimating, planning, procurement, execution, commissioning, and close‑out — ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, profitably, and to a consistently high technical standard.
You will champion operational excellence, strengthen internal leadership capability, and help position the company as the most reliable and technically proficient contractor in the PNG / Solomon Islands region.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the senior technical authority for all design, engineering, and constructability matters.
* Review and approve technical submissions, methodologies, drawings, QA / QC documentation, and ITPs.
* Drive innovation, value engineering, and efficient modular / prefabricated construction solutions.
* Serve as the primary technical representative across client meetings, workshops, and project reviews.
* Ensure alignment between client expectations, design specifications, and internal execution.
* Oversee operations from design to commissioning.
* Lead Project Managers, Engineering Managers, Construction Managers, QA / QC, HSE, and site teams.
* Ensure disciplined delivery to schedule, budget, safety, and quality KPIs.
* Lead tender development, technical reviews, risk assessments, and pricing strategies.
* Strengthen margin protection and tender accuracy across all submissions.
* Uphold a rigorous QA / QC and HSE culture across all projects and departments.
* Oversee root‑cause analyses, corrective action plans, and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You – Skills & Experience
* Years of experience in construction, engineering, EPC, or multi‑disciplinary project delivery.
Strong background in civil, structural, modular / prefabricated, LGS, AFS, blockwork, or remote‑area construction.
Proven leadership of large technical and operational teams.
Experience dealing with resource sector, government, defence, or donor‑funded clients.
Strong understanding of Australian Standards, QA / QC, HSE, and project controls.
PNG, Pacific Islands, or remote‑environment project experience (highly advantageous).
A disciplined, accountable, and commercially astute leadership style.
Location & Travel
Based in Port Moresby, with regular travel to project sites across PNG and the Solomon Islands.
Remuneration
* Base salary $180,000 – $220,000 AUD
