About the Role We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic Social Workers to join our team at Perth Children's Hospital.
As a Social Worker, you will support children and families within an allocated service area to navigate the challenges that can arise from illness, injury or hospitalisation.
As you develop your skills and knowledge within this clinical setting, you will work holistically to understand and respond to the emotional, social and psychological needs of our young patients and their families.
You will play a key role in ensuring that a child's medical care is supported by attention to emotional wellbeing, safety, family context and social circumstances that influence recovery and long-term outcomes.
Your key responsibilities will include: Providing an effective social work service through offering a range of interventions to children and families in crisis situations including life limiting diagnosis, disability, trauma and/or bereavement.
Providing social work consultation to other health professionals and community colleagues on case management issues.
Actively prioritising and coordinating your caseload.
Facilitating and promoting safe and quality patient care.
Engaging in continuing professional development/education and ensure continuous eligibility for the Australian Association of Social Workers or the Society of Professional Social Workers.
To be considered for this role, you must hold a tertiary qualification in Social Work and be eligible for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers or the Society of Professional Social Workers.
Resources can be provided to support transition from an adult care environment.
About our Department Based at Perth Children's Hospital, our dedicated team of Social Workers, Aboriginal Health Liaison Officers and Welfare Officers offer a wide range of services to inpatients and outpatients from birth to 16 years of age.
Designed to assist families in managing the practical, personal, and emotional impacts of illness, disability, and hospitalisation, our comprehensive services include specialist counselling and crisis assistance, advocacy for patient needs, education, liaison with other services and referral to community-based resources.
Health issues can deeply impact the emotional and social well-being of children and their families.
As part of a holistic approach to each child's care, we work closely with a medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to assess needs and provide compassionate support.
We believe that every child deserves the best possible start in life, and at times we continue to work with some families even after they leave the hospital, which includes travelling to support rural and regionally based out-patients.
