Organisation description
Newells Paddock is an urban nature reserve by the Maribyrnong River, offering parklands, wetlands, and stunning city views. The area attracts diverse birdlife and native fauna and includes facilities for sport and recreation. Friends of Newells Paddock formed in 2014 to protect and enhance this space. The group holds regular planting and clean-up days and advocates for the parks ongoing improvement.
Position description
In this role you will use your bookkeeping or accounting skills to work closely with the committee, providing general financial oversight.
Responsibilities
* Setting up payment of invoices electronically and occasionally banking cheques.
* Presenting the financial accounts to the committee every three months.
* Answering occasional queries from committee members on remaining expenditure of a particular grant.
* Presenting invoices for committee approval.
* Ensuring compliance with record‑keeping to meet the conditions of grant providers and other funders in conjunction with the Grant Writer.
* Assisting the secretary to apply for charity status on The Australian Charities and Not‑for‑profits Commission (ACNC).
Qualifications
* Bookkeeping and/or accounting skills.
* An understanding of MS Excel.
* Knowledge of Incorporated Associations (training can be provided).
Time commitment
* The treasurer role requires a commitment of up to 2 hours per month in responding to emails, paying invoices and producing report summaries.
* We also have 5 × 1 hour committee meetings a year, starting at 6:30pm online on a weeknight on a date that suits all committee members.
* The applicant is encouraged to attend some of the working bees to understand the dynamics of the volunteering operation, but this is not essential.
* We are looking for someone to commit for a minimum of 12 months.
