About Us Cardinia Engineering is a Pakenham-based metal fabrication business supporting commercial, industrial, and infrastructure clients across Melbourne’s south-east.
We deliver end-to-end services — from cutting and forming through to coded welding, assembly, on-site installation, and maintenance. Due to continued growth and project expansion, we’re seeking a skilled Welder to join our team. This role suits someone who takes pride in precision, consistency, and craftsmanship within a safe and well-organised workshop.
Worksite: 304 McGregor Road, Pakenham VIC 3810 Position: Welder - Full-Time Salary: $78,000 – $82,000 + Superannuation
The Opportunity Working within a modern workshop (with occasional on-site work), you’ll interpret engineering drawings, prepare and fit-up components, and complete high-quality welds across mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium. You’ll collaborate with fabricators, machinists, and supervisors to meet production deadlines while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities 1. Interpret and work from technical drawings, specifications, and welding procedures. 2. Prepare materials and perform fit-up and tack welding using jigs and fixtures.
3. Perform high-quality welds using MIG, TIG, Stick, and Flux-Cored Arc Welding processes. 4. Fabricate and assemble components including frames, brackets, handrails, and structural sections. 5. Conduct visual inspections and dimensional checks to ensure weld accuracy and compliance.
6. Operate cutting, grinding, and finishing tools to complete post-weld processes. 7. Follow workplace safety, environmental, and hot-work procedures at all times. 8. Maintain tools, equipment, and the overall cleanliness of the work area.
9. Support continuous improvement initiatives and assist in training junior team members. Skills & Experience 1. Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (or equivalent qualification).
2. One-two years’ experience in structural or general fabrication welding. 3. Proficient in MIG, Flux-Core, and Stick welding techniques across steel and aluminium. 4. Ability to interpret drawings, weld symbols, and quality specifications accurately.
5. Solid understanding of Australian welding standards and workplace safety procedures. 6. Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver consistent, high-quality workmanship. 7. Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively both independently and within a team.
