Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their health and wellbeing through clinical and community programs.
Our main services are in Wellington, Dubbo, Moree, Western Sydney, Penrith, Nepean, and Blue Mountains, with outreach services to other towns and communities.
About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated Practice Nurse to join our Clinic Team. The role involves providing high-quality clinical care and supporting clinic operations. Experience working with Aboriginal communities and understanding health issues impacting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people is essential.
Key Duties:
* Support GPs and clinic services for smooth operations
* Deliver quality treatment and client care under Medical Officers' guidance
* Provide direct patient care, including dressings, observations, INRs, BSLs, urinalysis, spirometry, triaging, injections, nebulizers, and oxygen therapy
* Maintain treatment and consulting rooms, ensuring they are stocked and tidy
* Manage patient recalls for follow-ups
* Monitor vaccine fridge daily and report temperature variances
* Review and update clinical policies and procedures
* Ensure clinical procedures align with best practices
* Coordinate infection control and conduct assessments
* Support induction of new staff on infection control
* Maintain accurate records and input data into Practice Management Software
* Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and contribute to clinic accreditation
* Support the team in upholding workplace practices
* Undertake professional training as required
* Demonstrate cultural respect and comply with Aboriginal ways of working
Qualifications and Experience:
* Registered Nurse or Endorsed Enrolled Nurse (NSW)
* Registration with AHPRA
* Experience with Aboriginal communities and understanding of health issues impacting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people
* Experience working within a structured policy environment
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to establish effective relationships
* Organisational and time management skills
* Ability to work independently and in a team
* Knowledge of issues affecting Aboriginal communities
* Understanding of individuals' rights and self-determination
* Working with Children and Criminal Record clearances, NSW Driver’s License
* Certificate of Aboriginality
* Experience in Primary Health Care and Aboriginal Medical Service
