Disability Support Worker – Complex SIL (Experienced Only)

Sydney Health & Care Services (SHCS) is seeking experienced Disability Support Workers (male and female) to support adults living in Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes across the Wollongong region.
These are high-complexity residential support roles requiring confident, trauma-informed workers who can provide consistent, structured, and professional support across multiple homes.
About the Role
You will support adults with:
Intellectual disability and/or autism (including non-verbal communication)
Complex mental health and trauma-related behaviours
Medical and behavioural needs requiring strict routines and clear boundaries
Behaviours of concern including absconding, emotional dysregulation, and escalation
This role requires strong behavioural awareness, the ability to follow Behaviour Support Plans precisely, and confidence working in high-support SIL environments.
Workers may be rostered across multiple homes, depending on operational needs.
Availability Requirement (Essential)
* Due to the complexity and need for consistency, applicants must:
* Be available for no less than 4 full days per week
* Be willing and available to work weekends and public holidays
* Commit to ongoing, regular shifts (this is not suitable for ad-hoc or limited availability)

Key Responsibilities
* Provide personal care (showering, toileting, dressing, grooming)
* Support daily living tasks including meals, routines, and community access
* Administer and document medications in line with protocols
* Follow Behaviour Support Plans, Restrictive Practice requirements, and risk management strategies
* Use trauma-informed, low-arousal approaches during escalation
* Accurately complete case notes, incident reports, and ABC data
* Maintain professional boundaries and consistent routines
* Work collaboratively within a SIL team and escalate concerns appropriately
Essential Experience & Skills
Applicants must have:
* Minimum 12 months experience in complex disability or SIL settings
* Demonstrated experience supporting:
* Non-verbal or limited-verbal participants
* Complex behaviours of concern
* Absconding risk
* Participants subject to restrictive practices
Proven use of:
* Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs)
* ABC reporting
* Incident management systems
* De-escalation frameworks
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Emotional regulation, patience, and professional judgement under pressure
Mandatory Requirements
* Certificate III or IV in Disability, Aged Care, or related field
* NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
* Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
* Current First Aid & CPR
* Valid Australian work rights (no sponsorship available)
* Police Check
* Driver's License and Vehicle
