Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (Afternoon Shift Available)
Lake Macquarie City Council is seeking an experienced Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (Diesel Mechanic) to join our Workshop Team. The role includes scheduled and unplanned servicing, repairs, modifications, RMS registration, and safety inspections, with a focus on quality, safety, and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Ensure plant and fleet servicing, repairs, modifications, RMS registration and safety inspections are completed in accordance with NSW statutory requirements, NHVAS standards and Council processes.
- Carry out automotive air conditioning service and repairs.
- Support training, direct and supervise apprentices by demonstrating high‑quality work, safe work practices and fault diagnostics.
- Minimise unplanned maintenance of Council’s assets by reporting faults and suggesting improvements.
- Carry out risk assessments for all work performed and contribute to the development of safe work method statements.
Qualifications
- Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical trade qualification and automotive air conditioning experience.
- Experience servicing and repairing heavy and light vehicles and small and heavy plant equipment and machinery.
- Current HR driver’s licence.
- RMS unrestricted vehicle examiner’s certificate or willingness to obtain.
- Understanding of CMMS.
- TAFE or industry post‑trade qualifications in hydraulic systems, electronic controls, braking systems and/or welding are desirable.
- Team player with a positive can‑do attitude.

About the Role
Based at the well‑equipped Depot Workshop in Boolaroo NSW, you may be required to travel across multiple sites. Afternoon shift (12:00 pm to 8:45 pm) rosters are available.
