Return to Country - Administration Officer (Identified position)

About the Corporation

Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation (LNAC) is the peak advocacy and support agency for the Larrakia people, the traditional landowners of the Greater Darwin area. Initially established in 1998 to represent the Native Title interests of the Larrakia people, LNAC has since evolved into a vital service delivery organisation focussed on addressing the social, cultural and economic aspirations of the Larrakia people by initiating and administering programs, projects and services for the broader Aboriginal community.

LNAC is a not-for-profit organisation, receiving the majority of its operating expenses from funding from the NTG & Commonwealth Government.

About the Program

Return to Country provides services to people who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless, camping illegally in public places or affected by antisocial behaviour in public places, or are identified by the service or other agencies as requiring transport to their community.

Services provided include:

- Proof of identification
- Return Home (within the NT only)
- Accommodation

Conditions of employment covered by the Larrakia Nation Aboriginal Corporation Enterprise Agreement 2024. Salary range starting at $35.79 per hour. Option to salary package a maximum of $15,899 from your gross salary each year; 5 weeks pro rata annual leave per year; and a 35-hour week. Key Responsibilities

OBJECTIVE: As a member of a team, provide assistance to clients with services and referrals to other relevant agencies.

- Assist clients in making application for services
- Assess eligibility of clients to receive services
- Work with clients to identify temporary accommodation options
- Book and purchase client transport
- Produce and issue proof of identity cards
- Keep accurate records of service, including data collection and data entry in the Larrakia database
- Assist in the administration of income and deductionsDevelop contacts with service organisations and agencies providing services to the client groupUndertake other program related duties as required by the Program Coordinator
- Assist in the development and implementation of procedures
- Ensure client confidentiality and legally accountable practices at all times
- Ensure effective communication with colleagues, clients and service providers, plus involvement and contribution to regular and consistent team meetings and handovers
- Other position related duties as requested by the Program Manager and Coordinator
- Maintain respect for Larrakia people and traditional country

Key Selection Criteria

- Identification as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, with a strong understanding of cultural identity, values, and community connections.
- Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal cultural protocols and a commitment to working respectfully and collaboratively in accordance with Larrakia and other Indigenous cultural frameworks.
- Sound knowledge of local community services, programs, and supports, with the ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships with other service providers
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, consult, liaise, and negotiate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities, and organisations in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner.
- Demonstrated experience providing quality customer service, with a client-focused approach and the ability to respond to diverse needs with empathy and professionalism
- Proven experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, with the ability to build rapport and trust through culturally safe and responsive engagement.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small team environment, exercise initiative, manage time effectively, and maintain strong organisational skills to meet competing priorities.
- Proficiency in computer use, literacy, and numeracy, including accurate data entry and collection, record keeping, and use of Microsoft Office and other relevant systems.
- A valid Working with Children (OCHRE) Card, current NT Driver’s Licence (C Class minimum), current Police check.

It would be considered an advantage if applicants also possess:

- Identify as Larrakia
- Understanding of the history and contemporary issues affecting Indigenous families in urban and remote settings
