About the role

Mater Health and the University of Queensland are pleased to offer a unique joint training opportunity for a Clinical Education Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The University of Queensland is a leading provider of medical education and research, with an internationally renowned medical program. Mater is a leader in simulation and research, with state‐of‐the‐art resources and educational/simulation facilities. This position will commence in February 2027 and is a 12‐month position – it will suit either a new Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 6th year trainees, or those with only a few months of training remaining.

The successful appointee will work as a junior specialist within Mater Health, supported whilst transitioning to a consultant role, and have a joint academic position as a Clinical Education Fellow with the University of Queensland (Academic Title as Lecturer or Senior Lecturer depending on seniority). The academic role will involve obtaining a formal qualification in Health Professional Education.

The University of Queensland component of this role will involve medical student teaching via a number of different modalities (small and large group teaching, active learning, simulation and online formats). You will also be expected to review and develop course resources and actively participate in all student assessments (e.g., Structured Clinical Examination, etc.). There is also scope to participate in RMO, registrar and consultant teaching and be part of Mater's simulation program. The successful candidate will be expected to complete a postgraduate qualification in health professional education as well and participate in research/audit projects as directed by the Mayne Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and/or Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. You may also opt to undertake appropriate research projects in collaboration with staff from the University of Queensland's Academy of Medical Education.

The clinical component of this role involves acting up as a Consultant on the Consultant roster, supervising registrars and residents whilst supported by more senior departmental colleagues. There may also be an opportunity to participate in Mater's Flying O&G Service to rural and regional Queensland.

About you

Senior registrars in their final year of training and new Fellows are encouraged to apply. Senior registrars are expected to complete the RANZCOG "Educator" Advanced Training Module.
