The team The Financial Advice & Investment Management team leads ASIC's regulatory and supervisory work across the investment management and personal financial advice sectors. The team undertakes proactive engagement, firm and sector‑wide monitoring, research, thematic reviews, and surveillance activities to identify harms, guide industry practice, and shape future regulatory outcomes.
The team also administers the Financial Adviser Exam, manages the registration of managed investment schemes, supports regulatory reform, and works closely with internal teams on compliance and enforcement activities.
The role
As an EL1 Analyst, you will apply your expertise to identify, assess and action regulatory issues, enabling fairer outcomes for consumers and improved industry compliance.
You Will Be Responsible For
* Conducting risk‑based supervision projects and thematic reviews to address harms across the sector.
* Undertaking complex analysis related to the application of financial services laws, including review of financial advice files for compliance with legislative requirements and the Code of Ethics.
* Collecting, analysing and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data to identify, measure and understand regulatory harms.
* Identifying new ways to utilise data and technology to deliver regulatory priorities.
* Supporting policy and law reform initiatives, including developing new guidance, training and processes.
* Considering applications for relief from legislation, applying policy and precedent, and contributing to associated regulatory instruments.
* Preparing clear written advice, reports, submissions, and briefings for senior management and stakeholders.
* Engaging effectively with industry, government bodies and internal teams to promote effective regulatory outcomes.
About You You are a strategic and analytical thinker with strong investigative, research and communication skills. You thrive in complex environments, can manage multiple priorities, build strong relationships, and communicate insights clearly and persuasively.
You Will Also Have
* Relevant tertiary qualifications.
* Detailed knowledge (or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge) of the financial advice and investment management sectors, including key issues and emerging trends.
* Experience analysing and verifying complex information to form sound regulatory judgments.
* 5-6 years' experience as an analyst in the financial services sector, ideally gained in a corporate, consulting, government, or academic environment.
* Demonstrated capability in qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
* Strong business writing, verbal communication and presentation skills.
* Ability to confidently engage in challenging discussions and ask probing questions.
* Experience working through complex issues with composure and sound reasoning.
