Senior Social Worker

This role requires working independently to hold and effectively manage a complex caseload, acknowledging and ensuring appropriate levels of responsibility commensurate with the individual's knowledge and skills.

* Key responsibilities include direct work with children, young people and families, involving all key family members and prioritising their safety using Signs of Safety methodology.
* Conducting in-depth and ongoing family assessments of social need and risk to children, with particular focus on parental capacity and capacity to change.
* Using reflective supervision, research and other guidance to recognise one's own professional limitations and how and when to seek advice from a range of sources.
* Navigating the family and youth justice systems in England, using legal powers and duties to support families, protect children and look after those in the public care system.
* Participating in decisions about whether to make an application to the family court, preparing and presenting evidence.
* Making realistic child-centred plans within a review timeline to manage and reduce identified risks and meet the needs of the child.
* Developing knowledge of child development and its impact on all aspects of a child's life.
* Understanding the complexities of working in a large organisation such as a Local Authority or Trust.
* Maintaining and updating case notes and records pertaining to the children you have responsibility for.

Requirements:

* A social work qualification or equivalent.
* Understanding of relevant legislation.
* Registration or eligibility for registration.

Essential Requirements:

* Proven experience in social work.
* Knowledge of child development and the Signs of Safety methodology.
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Desirable Requirements:

* Post-qualifying experience in a similar role.
* Training in reflective practice and supervision.
* Experience of working with vulnerable groups.
