About the role
TasNetworks is powering Tasmania's energy future. As we continue to modernise and strengthen the electricity network, we're looking for an experienced and influential leader to bring together our Protection and Control functions—uniting people, systems and strategy to deliver safe, reliable and resilient network performance.
The role of Leader Protection & Control will:
* Lead and govern the Protection & Control function, ensuring alignment with AEMO, performance targets and system risk.
* Set long-term strategies for protection, SCADA and automation assets and their lifecycle.
* Oversee safe, efficient and compliant field delivery for all protection and control work.
* Provide expert technical support during complex outages, investigations and major incidents.
* Embed standardised, best-practice processes across the function.
* Identify, escalate and resolve critical risks through strong collaboration and influence.
* Drive modernisation through digital secondary systems, automation and new protection technologies.
* Build team capability and workforce plans to meet cyber, compliance and operational demands.
* Influence quality assurance across field operations, engineering and asset management.
About you
You're a strategic leader with deep technical credibility—someone who can inspire teams, influence senior stakeholders and guide complex technical functions through change.
You'll also bring:
* 10+ years' leadership experience in utilities, energy or similar complex environments.
* Degree in Engineering or extensive equivalent experience.
* Deep expertise in Protection & Control systems, SCADA, automation and asset management.
* Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and compliance requirements.
* Proven ability to lead large programs, improve processes and build high-performing teams.
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills — both technical and non-technical.
* High commercial and strategic acumen, with a focus on delivering value and mitigating risk.
