Summary of the Project

The School of Science, Technology and Engineering at UniSC examines pathways towards low‐carbon, resource‐efficient, and inclusive mobility. The team develops data‐driven models and tools to reduce the environmental impacts of passenger and urban freight transport. We have an opening for a domestic HDR (Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D.) student to develop related topics, including modelling and simulating the transition to electric vehicles, profiling transport equity in regional communities, and developing low‐carbon transport infrastructure.

Eligibility conditions

* Meet entry requirements to HDR program at UniSC
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Town Planning, Computer Science or related technical degree
* Domestic student – Open to Australian and New Zealand citizens, holders of an Australian permanent visa
* We seek motivated candidates who can exercise project and research management skills and are ready to thrive in a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be supervised by Professor Lynette Cheah at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) and will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).
* The PhD position is for up to 3.5 years, preferably starting in 2026.
* The position is based at UniSC's Moreton Bay campus. The ideal candidate would have a technical background and is comfortable with data and analytics. Experience conducting surveys and handling real‐world datasets is a plus. Good command of written English and oral presentation skills is necessary. Previous research experience, and/or knowledge of Python, R, GIS software will be an advantage.

Scholarship inclusions

The full‐time candidature period is 3 years, with possibility of a 6‐month extension. Coverage for the domestic HDR student includes:

* Stipend – $38 000 (AUD) per annum, paid fortnightly and is tax‐free for full‐time students.
* Tuition fees – Full coverage, with a value of $29 300 per annum.
* Relocation allowance – Up to $2 000 to relocate to a UniSC campus. All inclusions are in accordance with UniSC.
