We’re offering an exciting opportunity to join Porgera as a Senior Geologist – Resource Development. In this leadership role, you’ll oversee resource development activities, driving the successful delivery of exploration and drilling programs that support both our Underground and Open Pit operations. Your expertise will be key in identifying and defining economically viable gold prospects, all while upholding the highest standards of safety, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
In this role, you’ll lead the planning and execution of resource development drilling programs that support both near-term production and long-term mine life. You will manage multidisciplinary teams while promoting a strong safety and performance culture, ensure geological data meets international reporting standards (JORC/NI43-101), and deliver accurate resource models, reports, and LOM updates. Working closely with site leadership and technical experts, you’ll also help identify new exploration targets and improve resource recovery.
You will model safety behaviours and coach and develop your team, build strong relationships across the operation and with local communities, ensuring our operations align with social and environmental commitments whilst also mentoring and developing the next generation of national geologists, playing a key role in succession planning.
About you
At NPL, we foster a supportive and dynamic culture, and we’re seeking a self-starter who brings initiative, clear leadership, and a strong focus on safety to support production. To succeed, you’ll hold a degree in Geology (post-graduate qualifications advantageous) with substantial experience in mineral exploration and resource development across hard-rock underground or open-pit mining, with gold exposure critical. You’ll be proficient in 3D geological modelling software (Datamine, Leapfrog), database management, and have strong knowledge of sampling theory, QAQC, and data interpretation. Experience with PNG mining regulations and culturally diverse environments is highly regarded. With a hands-on, high-energy approach, you’ll embody our ‘One Team’ culture, developing and supporting your local team while driving continuous improvement in safety, systems, and performance.
