About The Austin Vet
The Austin Vet Specialists is an independent-owned veterinary specialist centre with a team of almost 100 people. Referring vets entrust us with the care of their clients and pets, and this trust is paramount to everything we do. We pride ourselves on our attitude to care and the ability to work together respectfully and effectively.
Between specialist departments in surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, imaging and a 24/7 emergency department, we work as one team to ensure outstanding patient care and exceptional customer service. Our custom-built clinic (1200m2) is designed around a synergistic approach to patient care and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. This includes intensive care facilities, large central treatment area, surgery wing, full suite of imaging equipment and dedicated medicine room.
About the Role
The General Manager will play a vital role in shaping the future of The Austin. This is a commercially focused leadership position with full P&L accountability of a growing veterinary specialist and emergency clinic.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you'll be responsible for enhancing operational performance and ensuring a high quality experience for patients, clients, team members and referring veterinarians, thereby delivering sustainable business growth.
This role will have a close relationship with the Directors to ensure the business meets the three pillars of our hospital: Outstanding specialist vet care, Exceptional customer service and a Fulfilling place to work.
The role covers a lot of territory, and every day will be different with new challenges so being adaptable is important. Some examplesinclude:
* Provide strong leadership and coaching to the management team (Operations, HR, Department Managers) ensuring the clinic is running efficiently and effectively;
* Foster operational efficiency;
* Develop values-driven approach that prioritises the well being of patients, clients, and team members; and
* Achieve and develop sustainable financial and business growth

* Take the lead in articulating and championing the core values of the organisation and devising and executing strategies and plans that align with, and reinforce these values.
Optimising Financial Performance
* Manage and enhance financial performance, with a focus on driving revenue growth through new service offerings, improving productivity and effectively managing payroll costs.
Maintaining Governance, Managing Risks, and Ensuring Compliance
* Oversee governance practices to uphold ethical and legal standards, proactively managing and mitigating risks, and ensuring strict adherence to regulatory and compliance requirements.
About You
Ideally, you will possess the following:
* Demonstrated experience in human centric leadership and strong relationship building skills.
* Ability to think and act strategically, with experience in business improvement, change management, and innovation.
* Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to implement new ideas..
* Ambition to take on a leadership role within a growing business.
* Experience and/or tertiary qualification/s in a relevant field such as business management.
* Commitment to developing and embedding a customer-centric culture that values engagement, efficiency, and service excellence.
