We are looking for a Road Design Drafter Officer (Civil) to join the team
In this role, you will focus on preparing detailed, accurate technical drawings and plans to support road design and temporary traffic management projects.
This is a full-time ongoing position based in Illawong, NSW.
Main tasks :
Traffic Control & Road Design Drafting : Prepare 2D Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) and road design drawings using AutoCAD, RapidPlan, and other CAD software, ensuring safe and efficient movement of vehicles and pedestrians around construction or event zones.
Incorporate all required traffic devices (signs, cones, barriers, detours, lane closures).
Site Analysis & Accuracy : Gather and interpret survey data, GIS information, and aerial imagery to verify that all plans accurately reflect site conditions and project specifications.
Technical Documentation : Draft specifications detailing construction methods, materials, and finishes for temporary traffic control and road infrastructure.
Ensure compliance with Australian Standards (AS **** series), Austroads Guidelines, and local zoning regulations.
Drawing Interpretation & Translation : Read and interpret engineering and architectural plans, translating them into site-specific, regulatory-compliant traffic management solutions.
Project Collaboration : Work closely with civil engineers, traffic engineers, and surveyors to coordinate drafting requirements, resolve design issues, and ensure feasibility of proposed plans.
Regulatory Compliance : Provide drafting support to ensure plans meet NSW and federal traffic regulations.
Stay up to date with changes to relevant codes, standards, and legislation affecting traffic management.
Plan Revisions & Approvals : Update drawings to reflect site changes, regulatory feedback, or design modifications.
Prepare plans for internal review and submission to clients, noting that engineer sign-off is required for external authority approvals.
Permitting Assistance : Assist with the preparation of supporting documents for road occupancy permits, lane closures, and related authority applications.
Timeline & Resource Coordination : Maintain drafting schedules to align with project milestones and ensure timely delivery of all outputs.
Site Inspections & Verification : Participate in site visits when necessary to confirm that drafted plans are implemented accurately and to identify any required adjustments.
Data & Record Management : Maintain well-organised records of all plans, revisions, and regulatory correspondence.
Professional Development : Engage in continuous training to enhance CAD drafting skills, road design knowledge, and regulatory understanding.
Required / Relevant Qualifications & Work Experience :
Minimum of a relevant Diploma, and at least 1 year industry experience within the past 5 years.
At least 3 years' industry experience may substitute the relevant qualification.
Required / Relevant Skills & Knowledge :
Proficiency in AutoCAD, RapidPlan, and other relevant CAD / GIS tools.
Strong understanding of traffic engineering principles, civil drafting techniques, and Australian Standards.
Ability to interpret engineering specifications and apply them to practical drafting solutions.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet strict project deadlines.
Annual salary will be between $76,****** to $80,****** (plus superannuation) depending on level of experience.
