About us
Central Queensland Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Service is here to support the wellbeing of communities across Rockhampton, Yeppoon, Gladstone, Banana, Woorabinda, and the Central Highlands, reaching a population of over 250,000 people. With services based in each region, help is never too far away.
What really brings this service to life is its strong network of collaboration. By working closely with local hospitals, Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug teams, as well as primary health, community, and private providers, the team creates a connected, supportive system focused on reducing the impact of mental illness and helping people move forward in their recovery journey.
About the role
This role is focused on making a real difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by supporting their social, emotional, cultural, and spiritual wellbeing during their stay in the Adult and Older Persons Mental Health Inpatient Units. You will work closely with consumers, their families, and communities to ensure care is respectful, culturally safe, and connected.
As a valued member of a multidisciplinary mental health team, you will provide cultural guidance and insight to help shape care that reflects each person's unique background and experiences. You will use your knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and protocols to support the treating team in delivering more informed and culturally responsive care.
You will also play an important role in helping the team better understand each person's needs by contributing to culturally appropriate assessments and offering meaningful cultural perspectives. Throughout a consumer's inpatient journey, you will provide support during care, including clinical reviews and Mental Health Review Tribunals, ensuring they feel heard and supported.
