Queensland state school communities strive for student success at all stages of their schooling and need caring and energetic nurses to contribute and guide care. State schools registered nurses apply innovative training methods and network within a school setting to build capability and empower school staff to safely perform health procedures.

The position is prioritised to be based in Mount Isa, however, with negotiation may be based in Townsville. This is a temporary part-time role (0.7FTE or 53.2 hours per fortnight) for a period of 6 months, unless otherwise determined.

With over 1,200 schools spanning across the state of Queensland, the Department of Education is one of the largest public sector providers, supporting all state school students to meet their educational needs. The department are seeking applications from motivated Registered Nurses to join great teams of multi-disciplinary professionals.

Your Opportunity

State schools registered nurses play a pivotal role in connecting schools with health specialists to create a safe supportive environment for students with health needs. Using advanced critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills, they provide tailored services to primary, secondary and special schools breaking down barriers to enhance wellbeing and bridging the gap between health care and education.

Responsibilities

- Form strategic partnerships with schools, health professionals and families as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Build school staff health support confidence through in-service education and training scenarios
- Support capability building, curriculum planning, resource development and school improvement initiatives
- Develop evidence informed methodology to effectively implement across Queensland state schools
- Consult stakeholders to enhance professional decision making and nursing practices
- Actively participate in professional development and reflective practice across a multi-disciplinary sector that values your contribution

Travel Requirements

Given the expansive geographical coverage of this role, regular travel involving multi-night stays is essential. You will be required to visit remote communities across the Mt Isa and Gulf regions, travelling by both air and land transport, sometimes at short notice. This includes flying to regional hubs and driving to more isolated locations as needed to support service delivery. In addition, the role may also involve providing services to schools located outside the Mt Isa and Gulf regions.
