About the Role As the Maintenance Grading Team Leader (North), you will supervise and coordinate Council’s Maintenance Grading Team to deliver high‑quality maintenance and construction across the northern unsealed road network. Your leadership will help ensure safe, reliable and well‑maintained road infrastructure for the community.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Lead, supervise and coordinate the Maintenance Grading Team
* Mentor and develop staff through training, performance feedback and adherence to Council policies
* Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, contractors and internal stakeholders
* Oversee and undertake grading operations to maintain road shape, surface condition, shoulders and drainage
* Coordinate vegetation control activities
* Ensure works align with approved maintenance programs, budgets and service levels
* Promote and enforce a strong safety culture
* Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, Safe Work Method Statements and Traffic Control Plans
* Conduct site‑specific risk assessments and ensure appropriate controls, signage and PPE are in place
* Operate graders and associated plant competently
* Ensure plant, tools and equipment are used safely and maintained
* Undertake routine servicing and minor repairs; liaise with workshop staff for major maintenance
* Maintain accurate work diaries, timesheets, inspection reports, maintenance logs and WHS documentation
Who You’ll Lead
* 1 Heavy Plant Operator
* 1 Skilled Construction Worker
* 1–3 Casual Employees (as required)
Who We’re Looking For Essential
* Current Class HR Driver Licence (HC preferred)
* Demonstrated experience in unsealed rural road construction and maintenance
* Strong understanding of drainage, surface condition and road longevity
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and maintenance programs
* Proven leadership capability with experience supervising and mentoring staff
* Practical knowledge of plant operation, servicing and minor mechanical maintenance
* Strong commitment to WHS in construction and road maintenance environments
* SafeWork NSW White Card
Desirable
* Certificate III or IV in Civil Construction, Road Construction and Maintenance, Frontline Management or similar
* Experience in grader operation
* Certifications such as Traffic Control, Chainsaw Operations, Chemical Use, Working Near Powerlines and First Aid
