Details of the role
The Post-doctoral fellow will work with a dynamic team developing novel anti-angiogenic and antifibrotic therapies for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The project investigates emerging drug candidates for AMD and nanoparticle-based delivery systems.
The fellow will execute the research plan from in vitro mechanistic studies to in vivo disease models to identify and validate new drug candidates that can transform AMD management and reduce treatment burden.
Responsibilities
- Execute the research plan across in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models.
- Perform assays to evaluate disease processes (cell migration, tissue remodelling, molecular marker analysis).
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and assess advanced drug delivery approaches.
- Prepare, analyse, and interpret experimental data with reproducibility and rigour.
- Prepare and submit animal and human ethics applications as required.
- Disseminate findings through publications, conference presentations, and reports to Bright Focus Foundation.
- Contribute to supervision and training of honours and HDR students as required.
- Collaborate with chemistry, engineering, and ophthalmology teams to meet project milestones.
- Demonstrate expertise in in vivo mouse models, with preference for ocular models (e.g. laser-induced choroidal neovascularisation).
- Maintain strong technical skills in cell culture, microscopy, molecular biology, and immunohistochemistry.
- Provide high-quality research output evidenced by publications and presentations.
Qualifications
- PhD in biomedical sciences, optometry, vision science, ophthalmology, pharmacology, or related discipline.
