- Duration of the training program: 12 months from 2/2/26 up to 31/1/2
Term of the Contract: 3 Years in line with clause 52 of the Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement
At the end of this one year training program, your LHN will work with the employee to find a suitable placement within SA Health for the remainder of the 3 year contract if necessary.
Presenting a great opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team of health care providers, to achieve health outcomes for a range of inpatients and outpatients of one of the metropolitan Palliative Care Services.
Positions are accredited for advanced training in Palliative Medicine (including all core terms – inpatient/hospice, consult-liaison & community) and for completion of a Clinical Foundation in Palliative Medicine. Applications will be accepted from Advanced Trainees, General Practice Registrars and senior Trainee Medical Officers with an interest in Palliative Medicine.
About the role:
You will be responsible for providing care to Palliative patients under the supervision of the Senior Palliative Medicine staff. Maintaining a high standard of patient care for inpatients and outpatients, you will implement appropriate care and assist with general and specialised procedures. This includes keeping readily accessible records of patient care, providing an accurate clinical handover and implementing administrative procedures consistent with the duties of a unit registrar. You will be required to liaise with para-medical staff as well as the patients usual carers and General Practitioners. Furthermore, you will contribute to Continuous Quality Improvement activities and education activities, and participate in training junior medical staff and medical students.
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will be registered with the Medical Board of Australia and possess a knowledge of contemporary palliative care medical practice and procedures. With appropriate post-graduate experience, you will have effective communication skills including, problem solving, decision making and negotiation skills. With the ability to communicate confidently and appropriately with patients and their family/relatives, you will have genuine empathy for patients and their relatives/family when approaching issues within the healthcare setting.

To be eligible for this position you must hold a Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent and be registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with General or Specialist Registration.
