Lead Legal Risk Management Specialist
The role of Lead Legal Risk Management Specialist is a high-impact position that requires a commercially-minded legal professional who can partner with the business to deliver clear, practical advice in a dynamic regulatory environment.
* Provide leadership and coaching to a small team delivering key business plan measures.
* Serve as the legal contact for relevant business units, supporting regulatory matters across operations and projects, trading and transition business units.
* Offer deep expertise in compliance advice and investigation, particularly in complex scenarios, to internal stakeholders.
* Lead the single point of engagement with regulators on compliance-related matters and ensure effective management of compliance reporting and information provision.
* Oversee compilation of regulatory information and data requests before submission.
* Drive a compliance culture, build awareness, and capability across the organisation through senior thought leadership.
* Design and deliver training to colleagues to build knowledge and reduce reliance on Legal & Governance for lower-risk or routine matters.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* Degree in Law and current practising certificate in Victoria.
* 8+ years post-qualification experience in an Australian law firm or in-house.
* Experience in areas like drafting, advising on commercial contracting matters, corporate acquisitions, divestments, structuring, project financing, construction, and procurement contracting.
* Strong communication skills and ability to influence without hierarchy.
* Ability to manage change and negotiate outcomes for the business.
* Understanding of the Australian energy sector and regulatory environment relevant to asset operations, portfolio development, and wholesale energy trading.
* Experience providing legal advice on regulated energy markets in Australia or the power generation sector.
