About the Role
As a Pre-Analytical Operational Services Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth, safe and efficient operation of Pre-Analytical Services. You will provide high-quality, empathetic customer service to patients and clients while undertaking pre-analytical processing duties. From receiving, sorting and preparing specimens for analysis — including centrifugation and sub-sampling — to ensuring appropriate storage and transport conditions, your work will directly support timely diagnosis and treatment. You will accurately enter patient and test information into Laboratory Information Systems, including Millennium, manage enquiries, liaise with surgeries and hospitals, and ensure request details meet required standards.
Working within a collaborative team environment, you will contribute to quality improvement activities, accreditation standards (including NATA and WHS), and infection control compliance. You will support daily collection centre operations when required and help prepare specimens for transport across the SA Pathology network. With opportunities to train and mentor colleagues and act as a Pre-Analytical Supervisor when required, this role offers the chance to build capability while making a meaningful difference to patient care and service excellence.
About You
While there are no formal educational requirements, you will bring proven experience, strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality service within a fast-paced pathology or hospital environment.
* 2+ years' experience in pathology or specimen collection
* Exceptional customer service with strong communication skills
* High attention to detail with ability to prioritise workloads
* Sound knowledge of NATA, WHS, infection control & confidentiality
