This role is a part time, permanent position completing 24 hours per week over 4 days and will commence as soon as practicable.The School Officer – Assisting Student Learning (ASL) works under the direction and supervision of a teacher to provide learning and classroom support to all students including students who have identified additional needs to access and participate in schooling. This role requiresthe School Officer to provide support to students with complex communication needs, engaging in communication in non-verbal formats. Providing support in all areas of the students needs including toileting, transfers and signs of medical attention required. The School Officer is willing to work in a team to provide adequate support.Townsville Catholic Education has standards of conduct for workers to maintain a safe and healthy environment for children. Our commitment to these standards requires that we conduct working with children checks and background referencing for all persons who will engage in direct and regular involvement with children and young people and/or adults-at-risk. The organisation is fully committed to child safety and has a zero tolerance to abuse of children or adults-at-risk.Typical DutiesThe typical duties of the role may include:Providing support to individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate in learning and school activitiesAssisting students (either individually or in groups) with specific learning needs including scribing, reading and providing feedback and observations to the classroom teacher(s)Supporting student engagement by reinforcing appropriate student behaviourProviding practical assistance to students in using classroom technologyPerforming administrative tasks of record maintenance, producing resources (eg. Printing, laminating etc) and other classroom administrative supportMaintaining a clean and tidy classroom environment/learning space including storage facilities and assisting in setting up appropriate classroom/learning spaceProviding support to students in relation to their physical needs (eg. mobility support) and personal care (eg. toileting, feeding)Mandatory CriteriaCurrent Working with Children Suitability Card - The successful candidate will require a paid Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card, No Start policy developed by Queensland GovernmentCurrent Drivers LicenceAbility to travel from time to time within the Catholic Diocese of Townsville.Ability to perform the physical requirements of the role in a safe manner.No formal qualification is required;, however, a Cert III in School Based Education Support or equivalent.Some employees may be subject to pre-employment medical assessments during the selection process.
