About the Role

This position plays a key role in identifying the direct and indirect causes for WHS incidents, providing recommendations to prevent further WHS incidents and working collaboratively across Council to champion our purpose of Growing Townsville and to deliver the Corporate Plan in consultation with the Townsville Community.

About You

We're looking for an experienced safety professional who has expertise in WHS investigations and WHS lead auditing. The role will lead WHS investigations and identify learnings that will be shared with teams to ensure continuous improvement. The role will support a high performing team in a collaborative environment.

Our ideal applicant will have a strong background across safety, or related investigative functions, with the capability to clearly distinguish Human and Organisational factors in your work. Your communication skills—both written and verbal—will be exceptional, supported by confident negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.

You will bring solid knowledge of WHS and relevant regulatory frameworks, along with hands on experience in hazard identification, auditing, investigations, data analysis and risk management. Your analytical strengths will enable you to interpret complex information, assess data quality and identify meaningful trends using business tools. As a visible safety leader, you actively promote a positive safety culture and ensure compliance through strong adherence to Health and Safety Management Systems. ICAM Lead Investigator qualifications (or similar methodologies) are essential.
