Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor (Education Focused) — Full time and Part-time continuing (tenure-track) academic positions at The University of Sydney
Base Salary Level C/D AU$156,103 to AU$207,069 per annum (pro-rata for part-time appointments) + 17% superannuation. Join the Horizon Educators cohort, with access to apply for Education Focused specialist grants up to a total of AU$30K to support education-related activities, primarily in scholarship of teaching and learning and improving current educational offerings at the University of Sydney.
Opportunity to be part of the Faculty of Science as the University introduces education-focused academic positions across the Faculty. Successful candidates will join the Sydney Horizon Educators cohort and contribute to teaching, scholarship, and leadership in education.
The roles focus on teaching, curriculum design, and educational leadership, with opportunities to develop education research and contribute to governance, leadership, and engagement within the employing school. Staff will be supported to engage in career development to lead change in teaching and research.
Responsibilities
Successful candidates will dedicate most of their contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (about 70%), with time allocated to research (20%) and governance/leadership/engagement (10%). Responsibilities include:
- Lead in educational innovation, curriculum design and review to achieve outstanding educational delivery and outcomes
- Design and deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences meeting University standards
- Deliver outstanding teaching and learning outcomes for students
- Develop teaching and unit materials in collaboration with more senior academics
- Maintain Work, Health and Safety requirements, including laboratory and/or field work
- Contribute to knowledge through research and scholarly work related to teaching and learning
- Develop and refine education research skills related to evaluating and improving teaching and learning
- Maintain high standards and excellence in educational activities and outputs
- Contribute to governance, leadership, and engagement in the school
- Coordinate, teach undergraduate and postgraduate coursework Units of Study; assist with laboratory/tutorial/studio/class deliveries as needed
Qualifications and We are looking for
We are seeking education-focused candidates who understand curriculum and assessment design and can contribute to improving the student experience. They should understand, or be willing to learn, the research principles around teaching and learning design, delivery, and evaluation. They should be able to interact effectively with students and contribute to education-related research.
Education Focused Academics (Sydney Horizon Educators) should have:
- PhD or near-completion in a discipline-relevant field
- Experience in assessment, feedback and learning by design
- Experience in outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes
- A track record of high-quality research outputs in the discipline or education
- Developing relationships with academic, industry or professional partners
- Experience supervising or mentoring others and coordinating team activities
- Commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching
- Ability to contribute to teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate levels in lecture, tutorial and practical settings
- Experience designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
- Excellent teaching, learning and assessment practice with student feedback
- Ability to foster an inclusive learning environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative work style
- Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion
- High-level written and verbal communication skills
Senior Lecturers should also demonstrate: leadership in education-related issues, experience as a unit/course/program coordinator, ongoing research in scholarship of teaching and learning, and leadership, governance and engagement capabilities.
Associate Professors should demonstrate: governance and engagement through prior work, ability to attract competitive research funding, leadership of curriculum development, sustained excellence in teaching and learning design, extensive research and scholarship in teaching and learning, mentoring experience, and established partnerships to advance education in the discipline and university.
