District Medical Officer/ Rural Generalist

The Indian Ocean Territories Administration (IOTA) is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Rural Generalist or skilled General Practitioner to join our Health Services Team on Christmas Island.
As the District Medical Officer your primary responsibility will involve providing comprehensive medical services to the community in general practice services, emergency medical care and preventative health care, in conjunction with other health professionals using a multidisciplinary, primary health care approach.
Your primary responsibilities will include providing and supporting the delivery of general practice services with other medical practitioners, including after-hours emergency medical care. Maintaining effective communication and working relationships within the Indian Ocean Territories Health Services including on Cocos (Keeling) Islands, visiting practitioners, stakeholders and the broader community will be critical to the success of this role.
The role will also provide support to other Health Service staff as required, including developing and participating in clinical education programs and collaborating with other health professionals to deliver multidisciplinary care within a primary health care framework.
You will also be responsible for reviewing and developing procedures and protocols as required and ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory requirements, policies and procedures, engaging with stakeholders effectively throughout.
To be successful in this role, the ideal applicant will possess substantial experience working effectively in general practice in a rural or remote cross-cultural environment and demonstrates commitment to working collaboratively with other health disciplines to deliver quality health outcomes. You will also bring recent Emergency Department experience and ability to make sound medical judgements and manage the emergency environment with due care and consideration.
To be considered, applicants must possess the following:
* Fellowship with RACGP, ACRRM, or equivalent.
* Recent experience in Emergency Medicine and rural/remote healthcare.
* Advanced life support certifications (ALS2, APLS, EMST, or equivalent).
* Current registration with AHPRA without limitations.
* Current Western Australian Working with Children Check.
* Australian citizenship and a Class C driver's license.
The applicant must also successfully obtain security clearance at Baseline Vetting level, satisfy Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and pre-engagement medical assessment prior to engagement.
Applicants with experience or qualifications in anesthetics, Advances Emergency Medicine and proficiency in Malay, Indonesian or Chinese languages will be highly regarded.
