The Preanalytics Team operates within Pathology Services at the Royal Hobart Hospital, Tasmania's largest public pathology provider. This dynamic and multicultural group plays a critical role as the "gatekeepers" of pathology samples. Their responsibilities include:
Receiving, accessioning, and data entry of specimens for diagnostic analysis.
Ensuring accurate and timely processing of samples to support clinical decision-making.
Collaborating across departments to maintain high standards in healthcare delivery.
Contributing to improved outcomes for patients, staff, and the broader Tasmanian community.
The Role
: The Senior Laboratory Technician – Preanalytics reporting to the Scientist in Charge – Preanalytics, will supervise and coordinate staff to ensure all work associated with Preanalytics is of the highest standard and quality. This requires the incumbent to:
Support other technical and clerical Preanalytics staff
Manage equipment resources
Support the training and development goals of the team
Deputise for the Scientist in Charge – Preanalytics
You will need
:
Previous experience in specimen reception and data entry functions within a diagnostic laboratory environment.
Demonstrated supervisory skills, including the ability to guide, motivate, instruct, mentor, develop and train staff to support high performance standards and achieve organisational objectives.
Knowledge and previous experience in laboratory quality systems and the maintenance and application of policies, procedures, standard operating procedures and safety requirements in the work environment.

Details of appointment
:
Permanent, full-time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Salary
:
General Stream Band 4 — $81,915 to $94,263 per annum, with our Employer 12% superannuation contribution on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2022.

Eligibility
:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
An Associate Diploma from a recognised tertiary institution, or an equivalent qualification appropriate to the nature of the work, or relevant training/experience as per Section 37 of the State Service Act 2000
Knowledge and expertise consistent with qualifications recognised at Certificate III and IV or equivalent level
Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times while employed in this role. It is the employee's responsibility to ensure that registrations/licences remain current and to advise the Employer of any changes. This includes notifying if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.
Desirable:
Previous experience within a supervisory and/or training role within Pathology

This job is located in the Preanalytics Department of the Royal Hobart Hospital's Pathology Services, which provides a 24/7 diagnostic service.
