The Opportunity

Access Foundation Branch within Mission Capability Division is a cross-functional, integrated team of Analysts, Developers, Engineers, Radio Frequency (RF) Technicians and Project Specialists working to deliver critical capabilities against some of ASD's hardest SIGINT access problems.

Shoal Bay Receiving Station (SBRS), based in Darwin (Northern Territory), is a remote intelligence facility managed by ASD. Working at site will offer a unique and challenging work environment where experienced public sector professionals work alongside highly skilled technical experts to achieve exciting outcomes for ASD.

We are seeking an energetic, highly organised and task‐orientated EL1 System Administrator Lead to undertake a broad range of work in support of ASD's mission. You will play a critical role in supporting the internal infrastructure of one of the largest organisations within the National Intelligence Community.

You will be required to work closely between the two sites and other areas across the organisation.

Due to the unique nature of the work conducted at this location, staff may be provided the opportunity to obtain a range of additional qualifications including construction cards, truck and forklift licenses.

ASD is seeking highly motivated and experienced EL1 Lead Systems Administrators with strong leadership qualities to lead the technical evolution and administration of ASD's most critical computer systems, through the oversight of the day to day operations of its corporate and bespoke ICT environments. This includes Desktops, Server Infrastructure, Radio Frequency and Antenna systems, Satellite communications, Application Presentations Services (Web Services/SharePoint), Messaging (Exchange and Email Gateway Services), Unified Collaboration Tools, Voice, Video, Cloud Systems and other critical components.

As a Lead Systems Administrator in ASD, you will be working with leading‐edge technologies across dynamic and evolving environments. You will work collaboratively alongside and lead a highly committed technical workforce to provide optimal performance, security and integrity of our systems, as well as trouble‐shooting issues.

Key Duties

* Provide authoritative systems engineering advice and strategic guidance to program leadership, ensuring technical solutions are aligned with ASD's mission and enterprise architecture
* Lead and coordinate systems engineering activities for major programs, ensuring the application of rigorous, tailored, and defensible engineering processes.
* Manage stakeholder relationships and escalated enquiries/cases and issues.
* Produce highly technical systems administrator outcomes.
* Manage day‐to‐day workflow and BAU operations.
* Direct the resolution of critical system‐level issues and manage complex trade‐offs between cost, schedule, and technical performance.
* Exercise considerable degree of independence and perform a leadership role.
* Produce concise technical systems documentation and knowledge artefacts supporting operational continuity.
* Work independently with the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability for the achievement of outcomes of their work.
* Perform critical and complex engineering activities and provide advice in the field of systems engineering under limited direction.
* Apply engineering knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties and consider these in planning, decision‐making and priority setting.
* Assess technical and design packages including scoping, planning, reviewing, provide recommendations and contribute to the implementation of actions.
* Sound knowledge of RF Spectrum concepts, including modulation and digital signals processing (distribution, demodulation), including Satellite communications.

* Lead teams responsible for configuring, maintaining and controlling computer networks.
* Apply diverse experience and knowledge to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve technical network and server problems and provide technical support.
* Ensure optimal performance, security and integrity of network.
* Review current network performance, capacity, capability, and determining future network and server needs.
* Staff are required to have knowledge of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision‐making and Australian Signals Directorate's mission and policy requirements.
