Medical Receptionist
Key role is a balance of professional customer service and essential administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the facility
Core Responsibilities
* Patient Management: welcome to the centre, assist with check-in/out procedures, and verify identity and Medicare, DVA and insurance eligibility
· Appointment Scheduling: Manage provider calendars, schedule and confirm appointments, and notify medical staff of patient arrivals
· Communication: Answer multi-line telephone systems, direct calls, take accurate messages, and respond to email inquiries
· Medical Record Keeping: Maintain, update, and retrieve patient files within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
· Billing and Payments: Collect co-payments, process insurance claims, handle billing inquiries, and reconcile daily financial records
· Administrative Activities: Manage correspondence, scan/file documents, and maintain inventory by ordering office and medical supplies
· Clinic Housekeeping: Ensure the reception and waiting areas are clean, tidy, and welcoming
Key Requirements & Skills
* Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using medical software (e.g., Best Practice, Microsoft Office, and standard office equipment like EFTPOS machines and scanners
· Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of patient privacy laws (the Privacy Act in Australia) and medical terminology
· Interpersonal Abilities: High level of empathy and patience when dealing with distressed or difficult patients
· Organizational Skills: Ability to multitask and prioritise tasks in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
· Education: Typically requires a High School Diploma or equivalent; specific certifications in medical administration or prior experience in a healthcare setting are often preferred
