About the role
The Audiologist Intern provides culturally responsive, high-quality and safe audiology services for Aboriginal clients within the Alice Springs community across a variety of clinical and community settings. The Audiologist Intern delivers ear and hearing health services integrated within primary health care to meet the hearing health needs of clients, with a particular emphasis on otitis media, conductive hearing loss, early intervention, community engagement, and hearing disability supports.
The ideal candidate will be a person with:
* Eligible for Full membership with Audiology Australia or enrolled in a Master of Audiology and eligible within 6 months of employment to be registered with the Audiology Australia Clinical Internship Program;
* Work in line with established practices that are responsive to the needs of the community;
* Ability to partner with service users, including them in goal setting, care planning and care co-ordination to identify and address health and wellbeing goals;
* Demonstrated well developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate sensitively in a cross-cultural environment with Aboriginal clients and staff;
* Current Drivers Licence or the ability to obtain
* Willingness, ability and appropriate levels of health and fitness to travel to and work from remote locations.
* Is of Aboriginal descent; identifies as an Aboriginal person; and is accepted as an Aboriginal person by the Aboriginal community
* An understanding of the historical and contemporary context of Aboriginal health, the social determinants of health, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control;
* Experience in remote primary health clinic environments.
