Role Overview: The Building and Automation Technician plays a critical role in overseeing, maintaining, and optimising pre-fabricated manufacturing systems and increasing our automated processes within the manufacturing facility. This role ensures the seamless operation and calibration of complex metal manufacturing machinery that creates essential products that compliment building activities.
The technician is responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting automation systems, implementing upgrades, calibrating machinery to ensure accuracy and quality; and collaborating with internal teams and external contractors to enhance manufacturing performance and efficiency. They work closely with the maintenance team to prevent downtime and proactively address any technical issues that arise.
This position requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills and a strong understanding of automation technologies. The Building and Automation Technician contributes to the continuous improvement of manufacturing operations, aligning system performance with the broader goals of our construction company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, calibrate and maintain automated manufacturing systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair automated control systems and associated hardware/software.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on systems.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to optimise outputs, quality and efficiency.
- Monitor system performance using diagnostic tools and make necessary adjustments.
- Program and calibrate control systems for seamless integrations and operation.
- Provide technical support and advice to staff on automation systems.
- Document system configurations, updates, and maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations.
- Assist in planning and executing automation system upgrades and retrofits.
Required Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Engineering, or a related field. Experience:
- Previous experience in automation, machinery maintenance or a similar technical role.
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing platforms (e.g. Salvagnini, Bodor, Amada).
- Familiarity with manufacturing systems and their integration into automation controls.
- Experience with programming and industrial control systems.
- Knowledge of energy management practices and systems.
