The Opportunity

Here at The Kids Research Institute Australia, our passionate finance team is a pivotal part of the organisation. Working closely with our research teams, they provide strategic and operational financial support with budgets, planning, and analysis, enabling us to achieve our mission - to improve the health and wellbeing of children through excellence in research.

Join our finance team as our Research Finance Manager. This key leadership role oversees and enhances the Institute's customer-focused business partnering model, focusing on strategic planning, financial forecasting, and business intelligence to support effective, sustainable, and informed decision-making within research operations.

No two days are the same in this varied role, but typical tasks include:

* Overseeing a team of project accountants and finance business partners, including supervision of accrual accounting, cash flow management, and monthly reconciliations.
* Partnering with affiliate universities and government agencies to ensure timely collection and lodgement of HERDC-compliant financial data.
* Collaborating with staff across the organisation to improve financial processes and integrate financial support services with other core support functions.
* Ensuring financial reporting requirements are met, including the preparation of financial statements and funding acquittals.

This is a permanent full-time position based at Perth Children's Hospital in Nedlands.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a people-focused finance professional who thrives under pressure and manages competing priorities. Success will depend on your ability to build trust-based relationships, with key qualifications and experience including:

* A tertiary qualification in commerce or business, and active membership with CAANZ, CPA Australia, or an equivalent international body.
* Significant management and project accounting experience, with knowledge of accounting standards in a project environment.
* Experience supervising staff and leading high-performing teams.
* Industry experience in academic research or health services, especially managing grants or contracts.
* Experience in strategic planning, policy development, change management, and financial sustainability initiatives.

We value diversity and inclusion and encourage applicants with varied backgrounds and experiences to apply, including those with career disruptions, which can be addressed in your cover letter.

* Modern offices with end-of-trip facilities, staff discounts, and access to corporate health insurance.
